Army cadets are seen marching in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Placentia this past weekend.

Placentia maintained its tradition of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in fine style this past weekend.

Starting on Friday, March 14 there was a parish concert and dance in the Star Hall. This was followed by another dance on Saturday night. On Sunday morning the 138-year-old Star of the Sea Association held the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Led by the army cadets, the Star members marched from the Star Hall to the Sacred Heart Church to attend Mass. Following Mass the Star members paraded back to the Star Hall where a brunch was served by the ladies auxiliary.

In the afternoon and evening, music was provided for dancing as many people from the community and nearby socialized and enjoyed meeting with their friends.

Around supper time, Irish stew was served to all who wanted it. This was followed by the cutting and distribution of a cake.

As is the custom these day, there was plenty of green around and costumes celebrating Ireland, some including flashing lights.

The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, as well as celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general.
