Doran and Golfman received Wave Awards at a ceremony in Halifax Sunday, during the fourth annual Women Making Waves conference. A project of Women in Film and TV — Atlantic, the conference unites industry pros and emerging talent for three days of panel discussions, networking and other events.

Doran is a producer and director whose business “Morag Loves Company” is behind projects like the TV mini-series “Random Passage,” and movies like “Love and Savagery” and “The Grand Seduction,” which recently won a Canadian Screen Award.

Golfman is a founding director and chairwoman of the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival, vice-chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation and a professor of film studies, as well as dean of graduate studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

A third Wave Award went to Film Nova Scotia’s Linda Wood.

This year’s Women Making Waves conference, which wrapped up Sunday evening, included a short film screening, discussions on film stunts and making a hit sci-fi project, and a discussion with “Bomb Girls” producers Adrienne Mitchell and Janis Lundman, as well as a screenwriters’ circle, including local writer/director/producer Deanne Foley.

The Wave Awards, according to WIFT-Atlantic, “recognize significant impact, extensive reach and high-quality contribution to the Atlantic Canadian screen industry.”
