History will be made in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly this week.
Finance Minister Charlene Johnson
For only the second time in the Newfoundland Legislature in recent history, a female Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board will bring down the provincial budget.
Minister Charlene Johnson will deliver Budget 2014 this Thursday, Mar. 27.
Mrs. Johnson was named interim Finance Minister by interim Premier Tom Marshall following the resignation former PC Premier Kathy Dunderdale Jan. 24.
This is one of a number of firsts for the young Minister – after her election in 2003 she was the youngest female elected to the Legislature and the first to give birth while sitting as a MHA.
