One of the newest members of the Town of Heart’s Desire’s council has stepped aside.
Elizabeth (Diane) Langer resigned Feb. 11. She is now a resident of Ontario. Since a councillor must reside in the municipality, she was no longer able to continue her role.
Langer was elected to council for the first time Sept. 24, 2013.
The town has advertised the position in today’s print edition (March 25) of The Compass, and will hold a nomination day April 8 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the town hall.
If more than one nominee steps forward, a byelection will be held April 29 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., also at the town hall.
The new councillor will join the ranks of fellow members Francis St. George, Colleen Murphy, Sean Lahey, Patrick Coombs, Mary (Jackie) Lahey and Patrick Murphy.
Several municipalities from Trinity Conception have held at least one nomination day for potential candidates since the general election last year. Heart’s Desire joins Brigus, Carbonear, Cupids and South River in that regards.
