The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is investigating an assault in Corner Brook Monday night and says it's since received numerous reports of a video posted on Facebook of two males involved in a physical altercation.
On Monday, around 7:40 p.m. the RNC received an anonymous report of an injured male youth near the Valley Mall in Corner Brook.
The 14-year-old victim was taken to Western Memorial Regional Hospital where he was treated for what was described as non-life threatening injuries and released.
As a result of the investigation, another 14-year-old male resident of Corner Brook was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm. The accused was released to the custody of a parent and is scheduled to appear in youth court on May 21.
The RNC says it doesn't condone the irresponsible and potentially dangerous actions of sharing this video. "Actions such as this serve to promote and validate the behaviors depicted. The public is reminded that everyone has a role in preventing violence. Failing to act or participation of any measure could result in criminal charges and serious injury to the victim," the RNC said in a news release today.
Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact the RNC at 637-4100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can also provide information anonymously on the N.L. Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
