A male resident of St. John’s has been charged with assault and mischief after an incident at a home in Conception Bay North over the weekend.
The 26-year-old was arrested by the RCMP on Saturday, April 12 after a female called the Trinity Conception detachment, alleging she had been assaulted. An investigator said the male and female were in a relationship.
The accused had left the home on foot before officers arrived, and was quickly apprehended by officers.
The accused was held in custody, and appeared before a judge at provincial court in Harbour Grace this morning (April 14).
He faces two counts of assault stemming from incidents alleged to have occurred on Saturday, and an earlier incident on Friday, April 11. Both involve the same female victim.
Sgt. Greg Hicks confirmed the injuries were, "more noteworthy than just a common assault charge," but details on injuries were unavailable.
He has also been charged with mischief relating to the damage of property at the home, police say.
The accused was released on an undertaking, and is scheduled to return to court May 21 to enter a plea.
The Compass has decided not to publish certain details of the incident that may lead to the identification the alleged victim.
