From the blue, white and gold balloons sprouting from the walls to the different people greeting you at the counter there was something out of the ordinary happening.

And, for good reason. It was the 21st annual McHappy Day.

Joining regular employees, municipal leaders, personalities, school administrators and local organization chipped in and helped serve meals to energetic crowds of customers.

Stores in Bay Roberts and Carbonear were among the more than 1, 400 McDonald’s restaurants across Canada celebrating this eventful day.

For every Big Mac, Happy Meal, hot McCafe beverage sold across the province, McDonald’s will donate $1 towards the Ronald McDonald House.

Officially opened on Sept. 17, 2013, the Ronald McDonald House has been a home-away-from-home for sick kids, and their families, who must travel to St. John’s to received special pediatric care, treatment at the Janeway Children’s Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre.

While the amount of money raised at local stores was unavailable, McHappy Day, McDonald's Canada's national fundraising event, has raised nearly $35 million for Canadian children since its inception in 1977.
