A Deer Lake man charged with sexually assaulting a person several years ago has pleaded guilty to that charge and with breaching a court order to stay away from her.

Gary Wayne Parsons, 45, entered the guilty pleas to sexual assault and breach of an undertaking when he appeared in provincial court in Corner Brook Tuesday morning.

Parsons was charged last fall with sexually assaulting the victim in 2007. He was ordered to not communicate with her or go near her home, but was accused of violating that order this spring.

Parsons was hoping to have the case against him disposed of when he went to court Tuesday. Crown attorney Brenda Duffy, who described the offence as a “serious sexual assault,” indicated the prosecution wanted a pre-sentence report done on Parsons to help the court when sentencing him.

Duffy also told the court she needed more time to canvass the victim for a victim impact statement.

The matter was set over for facts and sentencing July 2.
