Helen Cleary-Escott, spokeswoman for the RCMP in Newfoundland and Labrador, said this afternoon there is no information to indicate any of the RCMP officers involved in the Moncton shootings are from Newfoundland and Labrador. The families have asked that RCMP not release their names at this time as they are still notifying next of kin.
The RCMP in Newfoundland and Labrador has been in contact with the commanding officer in New Brunswick, Roger Brown, and has offered any resources that may be required. Brown is a native Newfoundlander.
The Newfoundland and Labrador RCMP division senior management team has contingency plans in place for member deployment in the event it is requested.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of our fallen members and all our RCMP colleagues at this senseless and sad time,” Cleary-Escott said in a statement.
