The Town of Stephenville will be one of three communities in the province to host a Provincial Day of Action on Tordon 101, which will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014.

Bob Diamond said in a prepared release the event aims to raise awareness on the use of the pesticide Tordon 101 in the provincial government’s road-side spray program and on the proposed 1,100 kilometre Labrador-island transmission link as part of the Muskrat Falls project.

In addition to Stephenville, an event is planned for Happy Valley-Goose Bay and St. John’s with organizers hoping other communities will join in.

Coinciding with Canadian Environment Week, the Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides NL, Friends of Grand River-Mistashipu, and Social Justice Cooperative NL have organized the Provincial Day of Action on Tordon 101, which organizers consider a dangerous pesticide.

The Day of Action will consist of a door-to-door signature drive and public meetings in various communities. This is the initial step of an ambitious goal by this coalition of groups to gather 15,000 signatures on a petition to ban Tordon 101 in the province.

In addition to the petition drive throughout the day, a public meeting is being held at 10 a.m. in Stephenville at the Community Garden on the Stephenville Lions Club grounds at 2 Woodland Dr.

NORAHG RESPONDS BY ASKING WHY IS DIAMOND WASTING EVERYONE’S TIME ?!?! The government of Newfoundland has come under fire from Diamond for using pest control products that are no more dangerous than table salt. Why is Diamond wasting everybody’s time on the issue of pest control products ? It is because Diamond could not even be bothered to have used the extensive toxicology database that is available from either Health Canada or U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These agencies have concluded that pest control products are scientifically-safe, and will not cause harm to children, adults, animals, or the environment. Not surprisingly, Diamond has never conducted a serious scientific study on pest control products, evidently because he is not competent to do so. Health Canada, and NOT Diamond, has the essential expertise on the subject of pest control products. Diamond is wasting everybody’s time on the issue of pest control products for mere political gain, and seemingly prefers to deal in politics rather than scientific facts. Diamond is NOT competent to give advice concerning pest control products, but has somehow deluded himself into believing that he knows better than Health Canada. In fact, Diamond has NO competent expertise, recognized training, or background, in matters concerning pest control products. And yet, Diamond ridiculously implies that his non-expert assessment is somehow being withheld from Health Canada and every other regulatory agency in the world. Clearly, Diamond wants roadsides and rights-of-way to become #@!!% vegetation-infested and dangerous garbage dumps. On this issue, the REAL danger to society is NOT pest control products, but rather Diamond himself, who seeks to impose reckless and arbitrary life-style choices, such as anti-pesticide prohibition. Diamond is blatantly and consistently wrong with his false allegations concerning pest control products.
