Divers are in the water this morning, attempting to clear a sewer outfall off Marine Drive, in St. Anthony.
Town employees tried to clear the 12-inch pipe, which runs approximately 400 feet from the shoreline, last week, but couldn’t get through the last 10 feet. During this process Mayor Ernest Simms noted that a mop head and shirts had been removed from the line.
The divers entered the water this morning and soon discovered the piped had been clamped off, presumably by arctic ice.
The divers are now cutting the pipe to allow for regular flow.
