Ottenheimer, a representative for St. John’s East from 1996 to 2007, filed his nomination papers today. A lawyer by trade, he served in former premier Danny Williams’ cabinet as a minister for health, education and intergovernmental affairs.

Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador executive director Sharon Vokey confirmed today her office received the papers, adding Ottenheimer is the first potential candidate to do so since details for the new campaign were announced last Friday.

A new leadership race became a reality for the party after Corner Brook businessman Frank Coleman announced last Monday he was leaving politics because of a family matter.

Coleman was the only candidate remaining for the PC leadership at the time and set to become leader at an annual convention for the party next month.

Ottenheimer has not been confirmed as an official candidate. Vokey expects the process to credential Ottenheimer’s nomination papers will take at least a day or two.

The deadline for nominations is July 7.

Mike I hope your wrong, Concerning Dwight Ball, because if your not, were really going to be in trouble. Man is making all kind of promises , to the people, only with words of no " Foundation " behind them. We need some one, who know what's going on in the province, Mike are you agreeing with Dwight when its come to our moose, Did you agree with him, when he stood by, when the PC's just past over 110 million to CBPP, with out creating more jobs in the mill or forestry? We need a leader, not another party string puller.

MAR, 2011 WHY NOT JUST MAKE HARPER HONOURARY PREMIER, and SAVE THE SALARY? I"M SURE HE WOULD DO IT FOR FREE< LIKE DANNNNNNY DID YE - Dummies!!! Ottenheimer resigned as chair of the board of Nalcor saying the "anything but Conservative" campaign that Daniel Celtic Tiger Williams waged is no longer a factor. "That's the past," he said. "That's history … I believe that's where most thinking Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are." "The Harper government has shown in the past, particularly in the recent past, that [Harper] is a good manager," he said. "I have no difficulty whatsoever in putting myself forward as a candidate with [the] knowledge that they are good money managers." Just make Ed Martin Premier, and let John run Nalcor......lots of options.

Please, give me a break! The tories need to drag themselves out of the dumpster of bad policies and backroom shenanigans so they recruit a dinosaur who defines everything that is wrong with the party. Congratulations to Premier Ball!
