The RCMP is confirming that officers are investigating what’s being described as a suspicious death in the Town of North River.
A news release issued late this morning say officers were called to a property along North River Road shortly before 4 a.m.
A male suffering from serious injuries was located at the property. Police say he later died.
Members of the Trinity Conception RCMP detachment, along with the members of the major crime unit and forensic identification services, have deployed to the scene.
The North River Road has been closed except to local traffic as the investigation continues.
An RCMP spokesman say very few details will be released at this time.
However, sources tell The Compass that the victim is a man in his early 40s, and a father of two young children.
A source with knowledge of the incident say the man was stabbed.
No arrests have yet been made, though an investigator said “we have a number of resources we are using to conduct the investigation.”
A resident who lives close to the scene said the community is in shock.
“My stomach is in knots,” said the resident, who described North River is a peaceful, quiet town.
A source described the victim as a quiet, likeable guy who appeared to be very involved with his children.
