It was a sea of red and white at the Community Gardens in Bay Roberts yesterday (July 1).

The town, like the rest of the nation, was celebrating the Canada's 147th birthday with music and fun.

As councillors were busy preparing and serving hot dogs, there was a bouncey castle, face painting and balloon animals brought in to entertain the hundreds of residents who came out for the celebrations.

Organizers could not have asked for a better day as the sun beat down and temperatures rose above the 20C mark.

The Compass was there and grabbed these shots.
