It is often said that while Canada celebrates, Newfoundland remembers.

That statement certainly applied In Bay Robets on Canada Day (July 1) as the town took time to remember those Newfoundlanders who lost their lives in combat at the War Memorial in the community.

In a poignant afternoon ceremony, members of the town, government officials, the local Royal Canadian Legion and the Bay Roberts Volunteer Fire Department, along with officials from various community organizations took their turns laying wreaths to honour the fallen.

With the sun beating down and slight breeze blowing Family members of veterans also took part in the ceremony.

The Compass was there and took these photos.
