People in Margaree-Fox Roost are reaching the breaking point when it comes to dealing with their broken road.

Margaree potholes

The two kilometre section of road that connects the community to Route 470 is causing damage to vehicles, and often that damage happens to visitors rather than locals.

Pauline Billard owns the Seashore Restaurant, and she said the state of the road is hurting her business.

“I’ve had tourists come in my restaurants, and say if they knew the roads were as bad – they wouldn’t have driven in,” she said.

She has also spoken to folks in Port aux Basques who tell her they would come down for a meal if it weren’t for the state of the roads.

Billard said she has had to replace two bearings in her own truck since the spring.

She believes patching isn’t working.

“That road hasn’t been paved since they put it there about 20 years ago.”

The Gulf News has spoken with several people who have damaged their cars and witnessed accidents due to potholes. Get the full story in Monday's print edition.
