The group presenting a cheque worth over $20,000 to Derm Mooney (centre) after a walk to help pay for his travel expenses for cancer treatment.
Derm Mooney was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer, and travels the 300 kilometre return trip for his treatments.
Two of his colleagues help organize a walk to help him offset the costs of travel. But they had no idea how successful it would be.
On Aug. 19, a group of some 175 people walked the streets of Placentia at 7:30 p.m. for five kms.
The group, plus donations that were made by others who could not make it, totalled $20,030, doubling their goal.
