An RCMP spokesman has confirmed a search of a home in Makinsons on Saturday, Aug. 23 is connected to the ongoing investigation into the homicide of North River resident Dale Porter.
RCMP Sgt. Boyd Merrill told The Compass this morning (Aug. 25) the search was in relation to the murder of Porter, but could not add anything else at this time.
Although investigators have remained tight-lipped, a heavy police presence was visible around the home in the community of some 450 people, located less than 10 kilometres from 39-year-old Porter’s home. There is no indication on what was found during the search.
Porter died of serious injuries sustained outside his house in the early morning hours of June 29. Autopsy results were not released, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
This is the second high profile search that has been conducted in connection to the incident.
The Vikings Motorcycle Club’s clubhouse in Cupids was searched July 5 by the Eastern Newfoundland Major Crimes Unit. Details on that search have also not been made public.
Although RCMP Sgt. Boyd Merrill could not give any more information, he confirmed the investigation is still ongoing.
