The pilot of a small Cessna plane that crashed near Rigolet Saturday morning walked away uninjured.

The 34 year old male pilot from Washington was the lone occupant of the aircraft. He departed Goose Bay Airport Saturday morning enroute to Greenland.

Just after 11:00 a.m. he was forced to ditch the plane due to loss of oil and also smoke in the cockpit. He put the plane down in shallow water about five nautical miles from Rigolet near the Rigolet airfield.

The pilot then swam ashore and was picked up by a couple from Rigolet who were berry picking nearby and saw the crash. A coast guard helicopter that was in the area was also dispatched.
