According to a post on the Bay Arena's Facebook page just over an hour ago, the replacement electrical panel arrived and the installation is underway. The post anticipates that should weather permit, that process could be completed tomorrow.
"There has been a test run and everything is fine, we should be starting the process of making ice tomorrow which will take several days to complete," read the post.
If everything goes well, arena officials believe skating enthusiasts could be back on the ice as early as next Thursday or Friday. The stadium will provide a further update Monday.
Original estimates had the arena re-opening mid-February.
It is welcome news for the Bay Arena Minor Hockey Association and the Conception Bay North Skating Club, amongst others who had their programs drastically altered for the last six weeks when an electrical fire broke out at the stadium in December.
At the time, it severly damaged the panel in the refrigeration plant.
They've been making due with all-star slots and such at neighbouring rinks, but the re-opening would allow everything to get back to normal.
