Controversy brewing in ice-fishing contest

People don’t know what to think about the legitimacy of the biggest catch so far in a Blaketown ice-fishing derby.

Some people believe this fish caught at a derby in Blaketown should be disqualified.

Newfoundland and Labrador Buy and Sell was compelled to send the leading entry to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to determine what kind of fish it is. According to contest rules for the Man Vs. Fish Ice-Fishing Derby, the fish must be either a brook trout or brown trout.

Healthy debate on the Buy and Sell Facebook page indicates there are many people who believe the fish in question is actually a salmon. The derby started last weekend and continues this Saturday and Sunday at Blaketown Pond. The top prize for the event includes a side-by-side vehicle.

Brown trout that has come from the ocean. No one can tell the difference until it has been in fresh water for some time and starts to turn brownish.

Love it! This made my day. Now we have to analyse the DNA to see what kind if fish it is. Tell ya what..filet it, slap it in a pan, fry 'er up and call it a day. This is what the creator put them in the ponds for.
