Jack Harrington — former executive and constituency assistant to Kennedy — officially announced his intentions this morning (Oct. 7).
The Compass spoke with Harrington last week before making his decision and said he would like to continue where Kennedy left off.
“(Kennedy) brought a lot of infrastructure to the whole district and there’s still work to be done,” he said. “I would like to be there to carry on and make sure the work is completed.
“I’ve been getting a lot of encouragement from around the district,”
So far no other names have been officially announced for the PC nomination.
Harrington noted in his press release he has “worked closely with town councils and various community groups… and would be honoured to … continue that work.”
Meanwhile, Former Harbour Grace Mayor Don Coombs confirmed this morning he would be seeking the Liberal nomination. Coombs has 24 years of experience in municipal politics.
Political newcomer Olympic gold medallist Jamie Korab is expected to announce this afternoon that he will also be running for the Liberals.
