DEER LAKE A herd of caribou near Junction Brook caused a headache for the driver of a pick-up truck as he hit two of the animals in conditions of reduced visibility on the Trans-Canada Highway Thursday morning.
Police aren’t releasing the man’s name, but their report states that he was driving eastbound on the highway near Junction Brook when a herd of caribou crossed in front of him. The weather conditions caused reduced visibility and police say the man did not see the caribou in time to stop.
He hit two of the animals, both of which actually survived the crash, but had to be put down at the scene by Wildlife officers.
Police are warning drivers to stay off the highway if at all possible during storms.
