letter to editor

I am currently writing a book on the plight of a man in Ireland in 1778, and his subsequent journey to Newfoundland; in particular, to Little Placentia/Argentia.

I am also detailing the plight of the man's great-grandson, 163 years later, at Argentia when the US government invaded and took over the town for the purpose of setting up a defense post against Hitler's Germany. I am reaching out to anyone who has a story or memory they're willing to share in this regard.

In addition to gathering feelings and experiences of that time by Argentia residents, I am interested in hearing from/speaking with people who worked on the moving of the three graveyards there to nearby Freshwater. I imagine it was thought to be, somewhat, easier for "outside" men to do that horrible job, instead of locals who'd be responsible for the removing of the remains of their loved ones, all in various stages of decomposition; if any there were remains at all.

In my hometown area, Placentia, many stories have been handed down through generations of Argentia descendants, and I imagine there are still lots of folks out there, somewhere, with valuable information and/or photographs to share.

Thanks for your time and consideration. If you or someone you know are interested in telling a story, no matter how important you feel it is (they’re all important), please contact me at your earliest convenience.
