The 8th Trinity-Conception Relay for Life took place in Carbonear on Saturday, Sept. 10, with some 36 teams taking part in the 12-hour relay and more than 100 cancer survivors taking part in a survivors' walk and reception. Some $64,000 was raised for the Canadian Cancer Society, and organizers estimate that some 1,000 people were in attendance throughout the day at the Carbonear recreation complex. It was the first time the event was staged in Carbonear, after having been held in Bay Roberts and Harbour Grace in past years. It was one of 28 relays taking place throughout the province, four more than in 2010. More than just a fundraiser, the relay brought together large numbers to celebrate the courage of cancer survivors, and continue the fight to find a cure. Organizers are already looking ahead to the 2012 event, which will take place in Carbonear on Sept. 8. New volunteers and committee members are welcomed, said organizer Danielle Doyle.
