Mounties-Astros exhibition hockey game

An exhibition hockey game between a team comprised mainly of RCMP officers in the Trinity Conception District and the Ascension Collegiate Astros of Bay Roberts took place at the Bay Arena Feb. 25. The Astros, much younger and speedier, outplayed their weary, doddering opponents, to the delight of the 400-500 people in attendance. The event was one of the highlights of the Bay Roberts Winter Carnival, with the Astros claiming the first RCMP Auxiliary Cup. Among the groups benefitting from the event were The Helping Hand, the Bay Roberts Crime Prevention Committee, and the Salvation Army. The town's special event's committee also made a $500 donation to Ascension Collegiate in support of the school's upcoming safe grad celebrations.
