Minor Hockey Week 2012 will be launched in Mount Pearl on Jan. 14 and continues until Jan. 21.
This year's slogan is "Teamwork makes the dream work."
"This week allows all minor hockey associations the opportunity to highlight their entire organizations including the players, coaching staffs, referees, board of directors, technical directors, and parents," stated Gonzo Bennett, president of Mount Pearl minor.
"This year's slogan is meant to symbolize teamwork for not only of the players on the ice but all the individuals associated with minor hockey in the province," added Arnold Kellly, provincial chair of minor hockey.
"The coach, officials, parents, volunteers etc. all build and promote a positive experience for our players. If we all pull together as a team with this in mind we will make our sport better and young players can experience their dreams in a comfortable environment."
Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador (HNL) expects that many invitational tournaments and jamborees will take place during the week-long celebrations.
HNL president Jack Lee is encouraging all members to promote the game as being a fun sport.
"We believe minor hockey week is a very important time to celebrate our game. We extend our thanks to the volunteers and the host association and wish all the young boys and girls fun during their respective events during minor hockey week.
"We want the members to focus on fun in the game as they participate in their various competitions and camps, and remember that everybody has to work together to make a positive experience for the players as our slogan suggests," Lee stated.
HNL is the governing body of amateur hockey in the province. The association currently has over 11,000 registered players, coaches, managers and officials.
