Martial artists have success at Canadian Open

Seven members of Earle's Taekwondoin Shearstown came away with eight medals at the 2012 Canadian Open in Toronto, which took place May 10. This international event featured competitors from 18 countries, and over 700 entrants.

Club members described the trip as an "experience of a lifetime."

Those taking part included the following: Toni Noseworthy (senior black belt), Bryana Dowding (junior black belt), Daniel Smith (junior black belt), Colby Noseworthy (junior black belt), Noah Curran (junior black belt), Isaac Crane (junior colour), Evan Curran (junior colour), along with coaches Master Wesley Earle (seventh dan black belt) and Sheila McGrath (third dan black belt).

"Theses students trained very hard with their coaches over the past several months to prepare for this event. They have pushed themselves and have overcome many obstacles to get ready for the competition," said McGrath.

The students participated in two events: sparring and forms. The results are as follows:

° Colby Noseworthy - silver in forms and silver in sparring;

° Daniel Smith - bronze in sparring and bronze in forms;

° Toni Noseworthy - bronze in sparring;

° Isaac Crane - bronze in sparring;

° Evan Curran - Bronze in sparring and bronze in forms.
