East Coast Concrete drops men’s softball league final in five games
After three nights of tough competition, the 2013 champions of the Carbonear Molson men’s slow pitch softball league have been crowned.
A best-of-seven competition saw Brake’s Heating defeat East Coast Concrete in five games.

The Brake's Heating men's slow pitch softball team won the championships at the Carbonear Recreation Complex Sept. 12. Members of the team are (in no particular order) Mat Davis, Tim Brake, Steven Peach, Kevin Penney, Tyson Crant, Grant Tobin, Paddy O'Keefe, Barry Short, Darrell Parsons, Craig Traverse, Sam White, Mat Powell and Roy Flight.
In a close final, Brake’s took the championship Sept. 12 with a 4-3 triumph over East Coast.
Kevin Penney had two hits in the final game for the champs.
Sam White tossed his fourth pitching victory, while Gerard Griffin took the loss.
To open the series Sept. 5, Brake’s annihilated their opponents by a score of 7-0 in game one.
Barry Short had three hits in the win, while Steven Peach, Kevin Penney and Roy Flight had two a piece.
Sam White got the credit for the pitching win while Geraard Griffin took the loss.
In the second game of the double header, Brake’s defeated East Coast with a 14-2 victory.
With three hits, Kevin Penney was the top batter for Brake’s, while Steven Peach made it on base twice.
Gerard Griffin threw loss again, while Sam White tossed the win.
Brake’s continued their winning streak in the first of two games Sept. 9 with another 7-0 victory.

Nine players from the winning team managed to get to base, while the top batter for East Coast was Chad Parsons with two hits.
Facing elimination, East Coast had their first win of the final with a 4-3 victory.
Brake’s was winning the fourth game when East Coast bounced back to extend the series into Game 5.
The pitching win was split between Gerard Griffin and Tom Harris, while Sam White suffered his first loss of the series.
Carbonear softball tourney
The league hosted its first ever softball tournament Sept. 14 at the Carbonear Recreation Complex.
Seven teams participated in the event, including the league champs, Brake’s Heating.
Other teams participating were Morrow and Morrow, Greenspar, Home Life, BPS Land Scaping, Aero Whiteway and Norman’s Cove.
Home Life defeated Morrow and Morrow to win the tournament by a score of 15-14.
Members of the winning team are Rudy Butler, Steven McLean, Brandon Roach, Mitchel Butler, Jason Curnew, Justin Oates, Matthew French, Michael Adams, Phillip Norman and Kenneth Abbott.
