Heather Strong and Shelley Nichols are both undefeated after three rounds of play in the Scotties provincial women’s curling championship at the Re/Max Centre (St. John’s Curling Club) in St. John’s, while defending champion Stacie Devereux has yet to win a game.

Strong and Nichols are each 2-0 atop the standings. Beth Hamilton follows at 1-2. Stephanie Guzzwell is 1-1 and Devereaux is 0-3 after Thursday’s action.

Strong, who won the provincial title in 2012, and her Bally Haly Curling Club rink of Laura Strong, Jessica Cunningham and Kathy Cooper, stole four in the sixth end to defeat Guzzwell, from the St. John’s Curling Club, 8-4 in Draw 2.

Hamilton, from Bally Haly, stole a single point in an extra end to defeat clubmate Deveraux 7-6.

In Draw 3, Nichols and her St. John’s Curling Club rink of Michelle Jewer, Kelli Turpin and Rhonda Whalen, defeated Hamilton 7-5, while Guzzwell nipped Devereaux 6-5.

Today’s draws are 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The top two teams advance to Saturday’s playoffs, however tiebreakers could force it into Sunday.
