Ascension Collegiate Astros forward Reilly Deering will suit up against the NHL Legends at th Bay Arena in Bay Roberts on Feb. 8 .
The game is scheduled for Feb. 8 at the Bay Arena, with puck drop at 7 p.m.
A score of NHL legends will grace the ice, much to the delight of many a hockey fan in the Trinity-Conception-Placentia region.
“It’s going to be a great event,” said Bay Roberts director of recreation Ian Flynn.
Along with the former pros, the game will also see Port de Grave MHA Glenn Littlejohn, as well as the CBC’s Ryan Snodden and Jonathan Crowe suit up for the Legends team.
Local senior hockey veterans Chris Crosbie and Matthew French will be playing with the Legends.
All of these names have lead to a wave of feverish anticipation in the community.
“A lot of young fans, and their parents, are excited,” said Flynn.
Earlier this week, there was a raffle done to pick who would be playing against the likes of Theo Fluery, Chris Nilan and Marty McSorley.
The following players have been selected:
• Brian Drover;
• Wade Reid;
• Brent Roach;
• Robert Mercer;
• Mark Canning;
• Matthew Hiscock;
• Steve Barker;
• Sean Drover;
• Reilly Deering;
• Darryl Peddle; and
• Frankie Carpenter.
Representing the town will be Flynn, director of public works Sean Elms, Deputy Mayor Walter Yetman, and Coun. Wade Oates.
“The players are ecstatic,” said Flynn.
Flynn has built the event with the community in mind.
While there will be stellar action on the ice, fans will also be treated to activities between periods, along with face painters and balloon twisters for the younger audience.
“It’s not meant to be a serious hockey game,” said Flynn.
Some 400 tickets have been sold for the event, and fans looking for information on ticket availability can call the Bay Roberts town hall for more.
