The Town of Marystown will host this year’s Burin Peninsula Regional Summer Games. The Games are scheduled July 20-26.

Marystown Recreation Committee chair Coun. Mary Beth Farrell reported last week four of five regions identified were represented at a meeting the end of January.

The regions will be similar to those in past Games – Southern, Western, Central, Northern and Host (Marystown).

Ms. Farrell said generic letters are being mailed to schools and other organizations to determine interest. Registration forms are also being sent out to determine interest in various sports.

“Three of the five areas need to have athletes entered for a sport to be played. Divisions will range from under-8 years to under-18.”

The Burin Peninsula Summer Games started in 2001 and alternates from one region to another for the host centre. Marystown had hosted the first regional games.

Other host communities have been Grand Bank, Rushoon-Parker’s Cove, St. Lawrence and Burin.

The next organizational meeting is scheduled this Thursday, Feb. 13.
