Well fed at Winter Games

Throughout the first half of the Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games, one of the biggest compliments paid to the host committee concerned the athletes village menu.
Athletes, parents and coaches raved about the options and those who have attended multiple Games insist it was the best food they've ever experienced.

"Wherever you go, whether it's a restaurant or hotel, food is what you're either going to complain about or you're going to say it's awesome," Pitcher said. "It's make or break."

With that in mind, the committee enlisted the services of a registered nutritionist and even went so far as to poll focus groups including student athletes, university athletes and members of the Clarenville Caribous senior men's hockey team about what they would order before and after a game.

"There's a lot of high protein things for athletes, and there's a pasta bar every day because athletes need to carb load for energy... so there's a lot of options."

"The caterers we have are absolutely fantastic, our local Co-Op and Lions Club donated all the food and all I've heard is good things. I've sat down for a couple of meals myself and it's better than I eat at home."
