Carbonear Academy physical education and music teacher Trevor Smith brought out a water gun to help the kids cool off in the 20-plus degree temperatures at the school's sports day June 24. Students lined up for the chance to get a splash of water on their face.

Carbonear Academy may be a brand new school, but traditions are beginning to form.

The students, teachers and many parent and grandparent volunteers headed to the Carbonear Recreation Complex early this morning (June 24) to take part in the school's first end of school year sports day.

Many of the students took part in activities, including three-legged races, long jump and 50 metre sprints. Some junior high students used the day to volunteer and help out the younger kids.

These are some highlights of the Carbonear Academy sports day event.
