Rugby teams claim three medals, one gold

Newfoundland rugby teams came away with three medals, including a gold, at the Eastern Canadian rugby championships during the weekend in Charlottetown, P..E.I.

Newfoundland U16 defeated New Brunswick 29-5 for the gold medal. Aiden Brown and Mark Oake each had two tries for the province. Alex Bugdon had one try. Quinton Lavado and Saul Bryant each had one conversion for the winners.

Newfoundland senior women lost 15-0 to Nova Scotia to settle for the silver medal and the province’s U18 team beat P.E.I for bronze. No other details were provided.

The gold medal U16 team roster included Mark Penny, Evan Brown, Justin Gregory, Owen Thorne, Ben O’Dea, Jonathan Woodford, Simon Henley, John Lester, Morgan Simms, Brady Walsh, Ben Newhook, Nathaniel Petten, Seth Bryant, Mark Oake, Saul Bryant, Griffin Sheldon, Matt Simms, Thomas Hickman, Mack Frost, Alex Bugden, Gabriel Thaggard, Sam Caylor, Owen Lavado, Quentin Lavado, Luke Grandy, Jordan Thaggard and Aiden Brown.
