This is after the club knocked off the host Corner Brook AAA Barons 12-9 in the championship of the annual tournament held July 11-13. The peewee portion of the three division, 18-team tournament was held at Fred Basha Memorial Park.
The victory avenged an earlier round robin loss to the Corner Brook AAA squad.
Although he did not start the game on the mound for the Bulldogs, Lucas Adams was a dominant force on the rubber and at the plate for the champions.
Appearing in relief of starter Nick Donovan in the third inning, Adams fanned 16 Corner Brook hitters over the final five innings of play.
In one inning, Adams retired four hitters by way of the strikeout after one Barons player reached base on a third strike pass ball.
At the plate, he belted a homerun and a double to help his own cause. Not to be outdone, teammate Lucas Bishop also stroked a homerun and a double to help pace the Bulldogs’ attack.
Coaches also praised the work of all 12 players on the roster as each contributed in some way to the victory.
At the conclusion of the tournament Hilary Reardon was selected as the team’s most spirited player.
En route to the championship, the Bulldogs posted a round robin record of three wins (Pasadena AA, St. John’s AA and Corner Brook AA) and one loss (Corner Brook AAA).
Members of the championship team are: Corey Parsons, Lucas Adams, Nick Donovan, Alex Clarke, Josh Adams, Lucas Bishop, Kolby Reid, Nicholas Mercer, Hilary Reardon, Jenna Lee Ralph, Reilly Meadus and Colby Drover. The coaching staff is Scott Adams, Darren Mercer and Jared Adams.
Mosquito, Bantam teams fall short
Baseball CBN came excruciatingly close to having three teams in the finals of their respective divisions.
The bantam and mosquito tournaments were held at Jubilee Field and Little Jubilee Field.
Both the mosquito and bantam AA teams made it to the semifinals.
In the mosquito division, the Bulldogs fell 7-4 to eventual champions, the Grand Falls-Windsor Braves.
Meanwhile, the bantam squad was narrowly defeated 5-4 by the Conception Bay South Raiders.
