Conception Bay North peewee AA Bulldogs pitcher Lucas Adams had one goal entering the top of the seventh inning in the final of the AA provincial tournament on Aug. 17 in Conception Bay South.

The CBN peewee AA Bulldogs are headed to the Atlantic Peewee AA Championships in Woodstock, N.B., Sept. 12-14 after a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the St. John's Capitals in the provincial peewee AA tournament at Nugent Field in Concpetion Bay South on Aug. 17. He wanted to record three strikeouts and keep his team within striking distance of opponent, the St. John‚Äôs Capitals, who they trailed 3-2.
Stepping onto the mound at Nugent Field in CBS, Adams dug his spikes in the dirt in front of the rubber and stared towards home plate. Using a combination of an overpowering fastball and various breaking pitchers, Adams preserved the one-run deficit.
‚ÄúI wanted the strikeouts, and I got them,‚ÄĚ he said.
This set up a dramatic bottom of the seventh that saw the Bulldogs score two runs to clinch the come-from-behind victory.
With the win, the Bulldogs punched their ticket to the Atlantic Peewee AA Championship being held in Woodstock, N.B., Sept. 12-14.
‚ÄúI was pretty amazed we had won,‚ÄĚ said Adams.
Adams would earn tournament most valuable player honours. He was also named to the St. John‚Äôs peewee AAA team heading to the National Peewee Atlantic tournament in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
It was another major league pitching performance that got the Bulldogs to the title game.
In a showdown with the host Conception Bay South , Nick Donovan threw a complete game in the team‚Äôs 5-3 victory over the Raiders.
Using a slick combination of a fastball and curveball aimed at putting hitters off balance, Donovan scattered eight hits and picked up 13 strikeouts.
‚ÄúI like to mix (pitches) up,‚ÄĚ he said.
Despite the performances from both hurlers, they were quick to point out the win was a complete team effort as each member of the team contributed in some way.
‚ÄúI was freaking out,‚ÄĚ said Donovan when his team had clinched the provincial title.
