Microbrewery could be coming to Brigus

Brigus could become a little bit hoppier in about a year or so.

Brigus could become the home of a proposed public house and microbrewery.

That’s because a pair of entrepreneurs are looking to set up a microbrewery and public house in the Conception Bay North community.

According to an application submitted to the town, Robert King and Guylaine Duclos propose to open the Brigus Public House and Micro Brewery at 23-25 Station Road.

The building located at that address was previously used as a residential home, but the town’s municipal plan can permit the proposal under discretionary uses.

The town is presently seeking public input on the business idea, with written submissions due at the town hall by Oct. 2 at noon.

Contacted earlier this week, King told The Compass he wouldn’t be willing to speak publicly about the project until after council votes on it.

According to the business permit application, King and Duclos intend to open the public house and microbrewery next August.

There hasn’t been a microbrewery in the Conception Bay North area since the mid-1990s when the Freshwater Brewing Co. was founded in Carbonear. The brewery later moved to Mount Pearl and became what’s now known as Storm Brewing.
