ARGENTIA, NL — A key component of an international shipping company's plans for expanding Newfoundland and Labrador operations arrived in Argentia last Friday.

According to a Port of Argentia news release, the BBC Jan delivered the Gottwald 6407 model mobile harbour crane Oct. 27. The crane will be used for Eimskip Canada's recently announced plan to make trips to Argentia a weekly service for container operations.

"This new equipment arriving (Friday) is the beginning of what we are confident will be a significant expansion in container cargo activity at the Port and we congratulate Eimskip on this initiative,” Port of Argentia board chair Vivian Smith said in a news release.
