Recycling blitz

There will be a recycling blitz at the Academy for Mathematics and English April 30 for Earth Day, An event held on behalf of Earth Ranger Brody Holmes.

Herbs workshop

A free workshop is being supplied at the Carbonear Public Library May 2 at 1 p.m. by the Food Security Network of NL about growing your own culinary herbs. For more, call 596-3382.

Community theatre

The Avalon Community Players will perform “Arsenic and old lace” at the Princess Sheila NaGeira Theatre in Carbonear May 2 at 7:30 p.m. For more, call 596-7529.

Banquet and dance

The Grand Orange Lodge banquet and dance will be held Saturday, May 3 at 6 p.m. held at Lodge Mackay No. 1129, Bay Roberts. For more, contact a member of the Clarke’s Beach Orange Lodge.

Flea market and craft sale

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 65, Brigus, will be holding a flea market and bakesale May 3 at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more call 528-4443 or 229-1678.

Spring dance and jam session

The Shearstown Lions Club will host a jam session and spring dance May 3 in aid of the Shearstown Lodge. Jam session begins at 4 p.m. and the dance begins at 9:30 p.m.

Read to remember

Young adult author Sharon McKay and Memorial University professor of History, Sean Cadigan, will be reading and lecturing at the Carbonear Public Library Saturday, May 3 at 1:30 p.m. for ages seven to 14.

Comedy on fire

A night of comedy hosted by funny-man John Sheehan is in its fourth year. The annual Comedy on Fire event will be held at the Harbour Breeze in Harbour Grace Saturday, May 3 at 9 p.m. The show un-cut, and open to everyone 18 and over. Tickets available at Needs in Harbour Grace, Canadian Tire and Von Stitch Studios in Carbonear. Proceeds will be donated to the Harbour Grace volunteer fire brigade.

Parade and commemoration

The Sgt. Levi Hollett Memorial Branch 39 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Dildo will host the District 2 annual battle of the Atlantic parade and commemoration Sunday, May. 4. For more, call 709-582-2884.

Craft and bake sale

There will be a Mother’s Day craft and bake sale May 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more call Wendy at 786-5535.

Annual general meeting

The friends of Salmonier Nature Park annual general meeting will be held Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. in the Sobeys Community Room, Howley Estates in St. John’s.

National day of honour

Bay Roberts will host the national day of honour May 9 at 2:45 at the Cenotaph War Memorial. All are invited to attend.

Save a life for Mother's Day

The Kiwanis Club of Carbonear will hold a fundraising campaign at the Trinity Conception Square mall Saturday, May 10 to help eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus. The club, along with UNICEF, are working towards eliminating the disease, which kills 160 babies a day, from the world.


There will be a Mothers Day dance at the Knights of Columbus, Carbonear on Saturday, May 10 at 9:30 p.m. For more, call 5965301.

Goods bingo

The Spaniard’s Bay Firettes will host a goods bingo May 10 at the Tilton Bingo Hall at 2 p.m.

Mothers Day dance

The Royal Canadian Legion in Brigus will host a Mothers Day dance May 10 at 10 p.m.

Spring cleanup

The Orange Lodge in Tilton will hold its annual spring cleanup around Tilton Pond and surround area on Sunday, May 25 beginning at 9 a.m.

Clothing donations

The Canadian Diabetes Association’s Clothesline program is looking for donations of reusable clothing and cloth items. Items can be dropped off at the red drop boxes at Powell’s Supermarkets Carbonear, Harbour Grace and Bay Roberts. For more call 1-800-505-5525.

Healthy Baby Club

These weekly group sessions for pregnant women hosted by the Trinity Conception Family Resource Centre, at locations in Carbonear (9 Newfoundland Drive), Harbour Grace (260 Harvey Street), and Bay Roberts (337 Conception Bay Highway). Includes free food supplements.
