“We’re inviting families, churches, services groups, businesses, anybody, to come on board with us, and donate a banner,” explained Forward.
The cost to donate a banner is around $200, with $10 of that purchase going towards the Military Family Resource Centre.
Military history on display
The Legion contains a number of donated artifacts from both World Wars, including a soldier’s bayonet, a gas mask, authentic war time recruitment posters, flags, and medals, as well as a number of plaques, awards, and photographs relating to the history of the Branch 23, the local 589 Air Cadets, and the town of Carbonear itself.
One of the commemorative banners the Legion hopes to display this summer. Pte. Josiah Squibb was the first solider from Carbonear killed in the First World War. He was killed at the Battle of Gallipoli at the age of 19.
