BAY ROBERTS, NL — A Level II student from Ascension Collegiate in Bay Roberts will get to enhance her understanding of science, technology, engineering and mathematics through a special award.

Melanie King is among the 2018 winners of the Research Inspired Student Enrichment (RISE) Awards competition. Next summer, King will get to enroll in the prestigious Da Vinci Engineering Enrichment Program at the University of Toronto. The provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation was set to grant awards to a maximum of 15 in 2018, ranging in value from $7,800-$15,000.

The RISE Awards are open to Level II students with an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Award recipients must have at least a 90 per cent average in Level I course and complete a minimum number of courses in science and mathematics.
