ST. JOHN'S, NL — A teacher from Bay Roberts recently received an award from Memorial University recognizing his commitment to the profession.

Jerome Delaney received a MUN Faculty of Education Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching. He has worked as an associate professor with the faculty for 14 years.

Delaney was recognized as "an approachable, inspiring educator who connects with students" who also motivates them to learn and creates a "positive learning environment," according to an inscription on a plaque presented to the Bay Roberts native.

Beyond teaching with the faculty, he's responsible for The Monday eMemo, which combines practical information with humour. It transitioned to a blog format earlier this year. He has also worked on textbooks and his latest, "The Undergraduate Teaching Internship: Student Perspectives," is due for publication next year.

Prior to teaching at MUN, Delaney spent 30 years in the K-12 system. He taught at St. Francis High School in Harbour Grace among other places, and spent 15 years as a principal at high schools across Newfoundland.
