The Battle of the Atlantic went on for the duration of the Second World War (1939-1945), with Allied Forces doing their best to keep the supply lines open as German ships launched attacks.
Newfoundland's involvement was considerable, with planes flying out from Gander for patrol missions and a Newfoundland Escort Force escorting convoys through dangerous territories.
The event featured members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32 Bay Roberts and other local Legion groups, plus cadet groups representing Bay Roberts, Brigus and Carbonear. A parade made its way along Water Street towards the local Legion building for an outdoor ceremony. Attendees gathered inside the Legion afterwards for a snack.
