The image of a bird flying freely in front of a colourful backdrop won over the hearts of judges in the Bay Roberts Lions Club Peace Poster Contest.

Brianna Fowler’s winning entry in the Bay Roberts Lions Club Peace Poster Contest.

Amalgamated Academy Grade 7 student Brianna Fowler will represent the local club at the multi-district competition in Clarenville later this month.

Brianna, the daughter of Linda and Trevor Fowler of Brigus, received a first-place plaque and prize during an awards presentation dinner Nov. 8 in Bay Roberts.

In her piece, the bird flying freely represents peace, with the backdrop of a rainbow appearing after a storm meant to reflect peace, hope and love.

Cheyenne Edmunds of All Hallows Elementary in North River claimed second place and Amalgamated’s Olivia Murphy was third. Students receiving honourable mentions were Madison Bradbury (Amalgamated), Laura Brown (Amalgamated), Julie Edmunds (All Hallows) and Sara Smith (St. Peter’s School in Upper Island Cove).
