Local students shine in Skills Canada event

Students representing multiple schools in the Conception Bay North area earned medals at a recent Skills Canada event.

The 13th annual Skills Canada Intermediate Challenge and F.I.R.S.T. Lego Robotics Competition, held Nov. 28 at College of the North Atlantic in St. John’s, featured over 350 junior high students.

Owen Harvey and Kyle Short from Carbonear Academy claimed silver in the 3D computer animation category. Amalgamated Academy in Bay Roberts also earned silver as a team in the Lego league robotics challenge.

Carbonear Academy’s Cyan Martin and Cahley Warren captured bronze in 2D computer animation. Brittany Parsons and Michael Noseworthy from Holy Redeemer Elementary in Spaniard’s Bay did the same in the IT networks systems scavenger hunt.

Gold medal winners from that event are invited to compete at the Skills Canada Provincial Competition, which takes place next April.
