The Southeast Playground Improvement Committee’s splash pad project for the Placentia area has been selected as a grand-prize winner for the 2001 Aviva Community Fund competition. The committee will receive $100,000 to add a splash pad to the Wayne John Searle Memorial Recreation Complex.

PLACENTIA, NL – The Southeast Playground Improvement Committee’s splash pad project for the Placentia area has been selected as one of 14 winners of the 2017 Aviva Community Fund (ACF) competition.

With the $100,000 it won, the committee plans to add a splash pad to the Wayne John Searle Memorial Recreation Complex.

Aviva received over 500 ideas for the competition, which were narrowed down by a 10-day finalist voting period. From there, the projects were evaluated by a panel of judges and the winners chosen.

The splash pad project was in the running against four other finalists in the community health category.

“Supporting and caring for Canadians in making positive sustainable change in their communities will always be our belief at Aviva," Debora Hendrickson, Aviva Canada’s senior vice president, said in a news release.

"What a privilege it's been to be able to run another year of this competition, bringing our donation total to $8.5 million over the past nine years. We're continually inspired by the commitment and engagement of Canadians from coast-to-coast."
