ST. JOHN'S, NL — Teen girls hailing from the Trinity-Conception area were among those recognized at the recent Miss Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador competition.
Harbour Grace's Brianna Meadus came close to achieving the highest honour for the event, which awards scholarships for young women based on academic achievement, healthy living, community service, volunteer work and other criteria. Meadus was named first runner up for the event, coming in right behind the new Miss Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador, Radhika Verma of Stephenville.
Sarah Knight of Blaketown was included in the event's top 10 and also received the Isabella Ashley Spirit of Giving Award. That honour recognizes the competitor who raises the most money for Ronald McDonald House Charities Newfoundland and Labrador. Earlier this year, she organized Sarah's Run for a Smile, a race held in Bay Roberts that attracted people of all ages.
Meadus and Knight were not alone when it came to Trinity-Conception teens making it to the top 10. Macy Thorne of Blaketown and Cavendish's Sarah Legge were also in the top 10.
This year's Miss Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador event was held Nov. 19 at Holy Heart Theatre in St. John's.
