BAY ROBERTS, NL — Bay Roberts is set to welcome some well-trained pups next month vying for the opportunity to represent Canada internationally.

For the first time in its 68-year history, the Conception Bay Kennel Club is hosting national junior handling competitions. The event, happening as part of the club's annual All-Breed Dog Shows and Trials Aug. 12-13, features junior dog handlers from 14 Canadian Kennel Club zones stretching from Newfoundland and Labrador all the way to British Columbia.

Junior competitors will compete in both the conformation and obedience events, with the winner of the former earning a trip to London next March for the Crufts Dog Show — the largest dog show in the world.

The event, running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, will take place at Bay Arena. The National Junior Handling Finals will happen Aug. 12.
