Conception Bay North dance troupes star at 5, 6, 7, 8 Showtime

ST. JOHN'S — Local dance troupes wowed the judges with sharp moves, with some earning the right to move on to the Dance World Cup this summer.

Harbour Music and Dance of Bay Roberts and Carbonear's Danceworx sent dancers to the 5, 6, 7, 8 Showtime event at the St. John's Convention Centre April 21-23.

Harbour Music and Dance had 20 entries in all, with 10 earning gold honours and three earning the right to attend the Dance World Cup, an annual competition taking place this year in Whistler, B.C. July 3-6.

Those who qualified for the B.C. competition are Lennox Powell, Bryony Fowler and the tap class. Members of the later group are Ella Akerman, Paige Cormier, Sara Cummings, Fowler, Paige Morgan and Emma Petten. Their teachers are Krista Fowler, Erin Mackey and Jo-Annah Yetman.

Danceworx nabbed two first-place awards, one second and four thirds. The Youth Performing Group and 30+ Adult Jazz troupe earned the right to advance to the Dance World Cup.

The youth group features Trinity Deering, Samie Snow, Hayley Power, Kiera Legge, Hannah Doyle, Abigail Clark, Kelsey Parsons, Erin Hiscock and Erica Evely, and members of the jazz troupe are Rosemary King, Lynn Evely, Katie O'Leary and Mackenzie Keats. Katie O'Leary handled the choreography for both groups.

Fellow Danceworx instructor Lakeisha Rowe had a duo entry in the event that also placed first.
